Spent 8 years in the 6th Regiment Duke of Connaught’s Own Rifles prior to the First World War.

Enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Vancouver, British Columbia on 7 November 1914; assigned regimental number 75001. Served in the 29th Regiment initially as a colour sargeant; received a temporary promotion to Lieutenant 7 August 1916. Received a gunshot wound to the abdomen and reported to hospital on 15 September 1916; transferred to No. 7 Stationary Hospital at Boulogne 23 September 1916; steadily deteriorated and passed away 23 October 1916.158
