Spent 7 years in the 6th Regiment Duke of Connaught’s Own Rifles prior to the First World War.
Enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Valcartier, Québec on 22 September 1914; assigned regimental number 28871. Served in the 16th Battalion as a private. Discharged 29 January 1915 in order to join the British Army with a commission.165 He appears to have joined the Royal Naval Division of the Army. (Reords not yet obtained.)
