Notes for Geraldine Marion Denison
Her obituary:

BEATTIE, Geraldine Marian (Denison), passed away peacefully on May 19, 2009 at Columbia View Lodge. She was born Nov 11 1915 in Cranbrook, B.C. Her family moved to Fernie, then on to Nelson where she graduated from high school. She met and married Ron (a young banker and quarterback of the Nelson Football Team) in 1935. They moved to Trail in 1936 and raised a family of seven children.

Gerry was very community minded and was involved in many volunteer activities, which included: Charter member of the Trail Figure Skating Club, honorary member of the Beaver Valley and Lilac (Spokane) Figure Skating Clubs, the first president of the Trail Central School PTA, and the local PTA representative on the B.C. PTA.

Gerry and her husband, Ron, were devoted to the sport of Figure Skating. As a team they practiced, (he competed), judged and promoted Figure Skating throughout B.C. Canada and Washington State for over 40 years. This devotion to this wonderful sport led to them jointly receiving the Dogwood Award from the Province of B.C. in 1973 and to receiving the Trail and District Sports Persons of the Year Award (the 1st couple ever).

Gerry was the loving and devoted mother of Colleen (Bill) Shields, Molly Beckstead, Susan (Ed) Nichols, Ronaye (Hugh) Ashlie, Candy (Joe) Parrilla, Cyndi (Hank) Stackhouse and son Paul (Marion). Gerry was the cherished grandmother of Jon, Megan & Paul Shields; Nadine, Laura, & David Jones; Mike, Brent & Monica Beattie; Anne Marie & A.J. Nichols; Elliot, Ron, Lisa & Clayton Roach; Matthew & Kathleen Parrilla; Taaylor & Fraser Stackhouse and step grandchildren: Sharolie & Bond Ashlie. She will also be fondly remembered by 26 great grandchildren, 11 step great grandchildren and brother in law, Don Beattie (Bette). Gerry was predeceased by her husband Ron (Home of Champions Inductee 2007) and her sisters Helen Burns and Delphine Blaine.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of CVL, Dr. T. Hii, Dr. M. Jacobsen and the Hospice volunteers for their thoughtfulness and excellent care of Gerry; especially for the their superb palliative care of her during her last days.

In respect of Gerry’s wishes there will not be a service. Cremation has taken place. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the CVL Resident Palliative Care Program or Trail Hospice Program.
