Ralph’s Avro Lancaster was lost in the village of Hohrodberg, 4 km north of Munster, France, outbound on a bombing run to Munich from the RAF base at Elsham Woods in Lincolnshire, England. They were originally buried some 25 m from the crash site by local nuns; they were subsequently moved the collective grave in Munster’s Communal Cemetery.
