LOUGHEED _ Gwendolyn Pym
Gwendolyn Pym Lougheed, 88, a long-time Vancouver resident, died Friday, October 31, 2003 in Bowling Green, Ohio. She was a member of many organizations, including the American Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Pi and Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, Vancouver. She was listed in the Social Register of Canada. A life-long Anglican, she was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Bowling Green. Her hobby was showing dogs, including an English bulldog and her favorite beagle, Oscar, who took Best American Breed at Madison Square Garden, New York. She also was an accomplished pianist and harpist. Mrs. Lougheed was employed through the 1960's as an English instructor at Bowling Green State University. She earned her BA from the University of British Columbia in history and philosophy in 1936 and her MA in English from BGSU. She studied at Oxford University in 1960. Born November 8, 1914 in Calgary, Alberta to William H. Pym and Eulalia Newell, she married Milford Seymour Lougheed, a geological engineer and professor, on September 12, 1940 at Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal. He was the son of The Hon. Nelson Seymour Lougheed of Victoria. He died July 17, 1980. Mrs. Lougheed was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Harold W. Johnson, and a half-sister, Barbara Johnson Kiser. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon M. Lougheed of Albany, New York and a grandson, David Lougheed Sanders, Brooklyn, New York. A memorial service at the end of the year and a scholarship in her name will be announced in the newspaper in early December. Written remembrances of her, sent to her daughter at 179 Homestead Ave., Albany, NY 12206, would be appreciated.245
