Daniel was a Private with the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons cavalry from 3 December 1806 to 3 December 1816, and subsequently reenlisted with the 3rd Light Dragoons from 3 December 1816 to 25 October 1826. He was credited with nearly 22 years of service; 2 extra years were credited to him by virtue of the fact he was present at the Battle of Waterloo.

Daniel was discharged to County Fermanagh, with M. Walker, Surgeon, 3 Light Dragoons giving the reason as:

“This man has been repeatedly in hospital within the last three years with severe attacks of Rheumatism which has latterly ...?... the chronic form. He has been on ...?... for the last six months and the Captain of his troop reports him as totally unable to perform his Military duty.”
