Notes for Rev. Eyjólfur Grímsson

Eyjólfur was the first minister of the cathedral at Skálholt in 1530, early in the days of Bishop Ögmandur. He was assigned to Stad in Grindavik in 1538. He received the new Lutheran religion which Bishop Gissur introduced at the Althing in 1540, along with the king’s order, and was restored as the cathedral minister at Skálholt in 1550, early in the days of Bishop Marteinn. He was granted the parish of Melur in Borgarfjörður in 1563, and there he was mentioned in the testimony of Jóhann Puccolt in 1571, then a minister for over 50 years.
Eyjólfur was married 3 times; Guðný was the first. No names or other information on the others is known.
