Notes for John & Elizabeth (Family)
Witnesses were James Hamilton and Richard Ryan.

According to John and Elizabeth’s son James in the Perkins BUll papers, John came to Canada alone and bought a farm in Chinguacousy Township, Two years later he sent for Elizabeth. At the time of their marriage, John had moved to Albion Township, but Elizabeth’s address was given as Chinguacousy.

When interviewed, James said that his father had “already been in this country ten or twelve years at the time of the Mackenzie Rebellion [1837]. This statement would put the year of John’s arrival in Canada as early as 1825 and is likely an error. At the time of the undated interview, James was apparently unsure of his own age.

Further to connection with other Lougheed families, James was also reported to have said that:

“As far as he known his family has not been related to the Lougheeds of Derry West in this country [James Lougheed of Brittania], but he believes they sprang from the same stock at home. All the Lougheeds are related.”

John and Elizabeth lived in Albion Township. Their son James said he was born on Lot 20, Concession 8 in Albion but had also lived on Lot 24, Concession 8. There is a record that John bought the east half of Lot 24, Concession 8 on 15 November 1860 for $800 - fifty acres.

According to Anglican Church records in Bolton, a John Lougheed, age 73, farmer, born in Ireland, was buried in Bolton 16 June 1880. This is likely the JOhn in question. If the age of 73 is correct, his year of birth likely was 1807.

Similar records indicate that an Elizabeth Lougheed, age 84, widow, born in County Sligo, Ireland, died of cancer and was buried in Bolton 22 December 1897.
