Notes for Thomas Lougheed
Thomas’ death was reported in the Barrie paper (3/5/1883, page 3, col. 4):

“At Innisfill on Monday April 23, 1883. Thomas Lougheed born Aug. 15, 1799 in the County of Donegal, Ireland, age 83 years, 8 months, 8 days. Mr. Lougheed came to this County and settled in Innisfil 42 years ago. He died at the old homestead where he had lived for 40years. His remains were followed to the cemetery by a large number of friends and neighbours.”
Notes for Thomas & Mary (Family)
Thomas and Mary moved to Canada in 1842 with several of their children. They first lived at Toronto, where two of the children died. They moved to Cookstown, Ontario and lived with Thomas’ sister Ann. Around 1845 they settled in Holly, near Barrie, in Innisfail Township, Simcoe County.

The family appears in the 1861 Census for Innisfil Township. Thomas held 100 acres of Lot 4, Concession 11, valued at $2000. The 1881 Illustrated Atlas of the County of Simcoe includes this item:

“Thomas Lougheed, Farmer. Born in Ireland 1799. Came to Canada 1842, and located in this county two years later. Now owns N, Lot 4, Con. 11. Holly P.O.”

Conflicting dates of birth have been recorded for their earliest children. The birth order may not be correct. It appears that Homas and Mary had more children that remained behind in Ireland, including a Joseph Charles Lougheed; this information needs to be looked into.
