Notes for Thomas Robert Lougheed
A book about Gore Bay printed in May 1912 included the following account under the heading “T. R. Lougheed - Hardware”:
“Mr. T. R. Lougheed was born at Sparrow Lake, Muskoka, fifty-one years ago. He came to Manitoulin 34 years ago and settled in Campbell Township. In 1897 he started a small hardware business in Providence Bay where he did well. In 1902 he moved to Gore Bay where he continued in the same class of business. In 1909 he suffered in the fire of that year, which detroyed most of the business places on the west side of Main Street, but immediately built the hardware cement block shown above.
Mr. Lougheed has taken an active interest in public affairs in the Town, being several times a member of the Council and is now a member of the School Board.”
