According to their granddaughter, Mrs. James Boyd, who was interviewed 7 April 1926 in connection with the Perkins Bull research:

“Dr. James Lougheed was a country doctor near Belfast, Ireland. He fell in love with Margaret Lougheed (no relation) - a city bred girl, and one of the aristocracy of Sligo. Her family opposed the match, but James and Margaret eloped. They came to Canada in 1828 with their family and settled on the 4th line in Albion. They came first to Muddy York, and the Doctor walked from there to Macville, blazing the trees as he walked. Whenever anybody was sick he attended to them, often not being paid for his services. He cleared the bush off his property and cultivated a farm and reared eleven children there.”

Either James or Margaret was a cousin of James Lougheed of Britannia.

PL: The bit about James and Margaret being no relation, despite the common name, should probably be taken with a grain of salt. If we subscribe to the view that the Lougheed name was a previously unknown one taken on by a group of Boyds when they moved to Ireland after 1745, at most it would be 3 generations on, putting them at second cousins or closer. Alternatively, there may have been several families that moved and adopted the name, placing them further apart, but it would seem unlikely there was no relation at all.

The order of birth for Robert and Eliza may be reversed; their dates of birth are not certain.
